Prime Minister Imran Khan has said the government is determined for unimpeded and uninterrupted development of merged areas and is committed to provide all financial resources required for the purpose.
He was chairing a high level meeting on the development needs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially the merged areas, and Punjab in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Emphasizing on need of the provincial finance commission award, Imran Khan said judicious and transparent distribution of provinces’ revenue receipts is utmost necessary for equal development and progress of the federating units.
He said in past, a large chunk of government resources had been reserved for few areas, while keeping political priorities in view, which adversely impacted the development process in backward areas and generated a sense of deprivation among people those areas. He said judicious distribution of financial resources among districts at provincial is one of the top priorities of the government.
The Prime Minister stressed on provinces to give special attention on empowering district and local governments in terms of revenue collection so that their resources can be utilized for the development of these areas and to provide better facilities there.
He directed the provincial governments to look for some out of box solutions to enhance their income. Special attention should be made on utilizing state properties to create financial resources so that more opportunities can be created to generate additional funds to be spent on the welfare of common people.
The meeting also discussed the issue of net hydel profit payable to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and a working group has been constituted to resolve this matter in an amicable way.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Planning Ministry’s efforts to address issues relating to provincial finance commission award and net hydel profit.
